Keyano Huskies point guard Yonas Berhe was honoured by the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference Thursday night with a selection to the ACAC All-Conference first all-star team for the North Division.

Including the ACAC championship, Berhe scored 426 points for the Huskies this season for a point-per-game average of 17.75. Berhe scored more than 20 points in 11 games this year.

The six-foot tall guard from Toronto also finished third in the ACAC North in steals with a total of 21 and led the entire ACAC in assists with 137 on the year for an average of 6.52 per game.

Berhe said after the Huskies’ loss in the ACAC championship game that he doesn’t pay much attention to stats, but it’s good to be recognized.

“It feels good, it’s always good that people notice how hard you’re working and that you’re playing well,” said Berhe.

“But to be honest with you, I don’t really pay attention to those types of things. I’d rather have the gold medal than to have got the all-star.”

Berhe and the rest of the Huskies are headed to the CCAA men’s basketball championship March 14-16 in Quebec.
