HERNDON, Va. (WUSA) — Herndon Police have identified the woman who was killed in a hit and run accident as well as her husband, whose body was found in a creek not far from the scene.
At about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, as police were searching the areas surrounding the 600 block of Center Street, scene of the fatal hit and run accident, they found a deceased male in a creek that runs parallel to Center Street through woods and brush. Police have identified the person as 32-year-old Fitsum Gebretatios.
Gebretatios was considered a person of interest in a crash that killed his wife, 35 year old Simret Tekle Woldetensae, in the 600 block of Center Street, near Pride Avenue, in the town of Herndon. Police say they both lived in the 600 block of Center Street. Their three children are in the custody of Child Protective Services.
Police say shortly after midnight and after the fatal crash, a driver of a black Toyota Camry slammed into multiple parked cars nearby.
The driver ran off, leaving the car. Police say it's likely the two events are connected but are inspecting the car to make sure.
Pierre Chahine says Gebretatios never showed up for work as a part time driver at Paisano's Pizza: "He was a great employee, quiet, he was excited when his family came over."
Chahine says his employee never talked about family troubles. "He always picked up pizza for them, food for them. He was nice to his family, I think."
Police say Gebretatios might have some injuries because of the impact of crashing into the parked cars.
Police ask anyone with information on the hit and run to contact the Herndon Police Department at 703-435-6846.
