President Isaias Encourages Eritrean National Soccer Team

Eritrea U-20 Soccer Team 2010

(Shabait) Asmara, 29 August 2010 – President Isaias Afwerki commended and encouraged the Eritrean national soccer team, winner of the silver medal in the 5th Central and East Africa CECAFA- Under 20 Cup for demonstrating an excellent performance. 

According to Maj. General Romodan Osman Awliyai, the Eritrean Sports Commissioner, the President followed the commendable performance of the Eritrean national team, and awarded each player as well as the coaches 50,000 Nakfa as encouragement and called on them to work hard for more gratifying outcome.

Moreover, the Administration of the Central Region hosted a banquet in honor of the participants of the 5th CECAFA Under 20 cup yesterday. 

Maj. General Romodan stated that the hosting of the CECAFA Under 20 tournament in such a colorful manner was made possible through the joint efforts of the government, people and other partners. He also highlighted the paramount role of CECAFA 2010 in fostering friendship and development as its theme indicates among the peoples of Central and East Africa. 

The Secretary of CECAFA, Mr. Nicolas Musonge, on his part said that he would indicate to the Federation of African Football that Eritrea can indeed host African Cup games without any difficulty. He went on to commend the generous hospitality of the people of Eritrea. 

It is to be noted that National teams of Eritrea, Tanzania, Sudan, Kenya, Somalia, Uganda, Rwanda, and Zanzibar, as well as an invited national team, Yemen, had participated in the 5th CECAFA Under 20 Cup which was conducted from 14 to 28 August, 2010.

    i am 24 years old ; however i have never seen eritrean national team free. which it thier ability on the field and i really apriciat the coach for creating a confident team.  after that to ERI- TV if you do the same thing you have done for this tornament, on any and every much the staduim helds i now we will see more people on the staduims. but you have to do the same advertisment those games too. beside that you have done a great job to bring eritrean to our popular staduim.  And to medhane pleas do not worry you have done what the expreince midfilders have not done, so be proud brother.
