Uganda3-1 Rwanda
Zanzibar 2-1 Yemen
Somalia 0-0 Sudan

Uganda kick-started its defence of the U-20 Cecafa Youth Championships title with a 3-1 victory over rivals Rwanda in Asmara, Eritrea yesterday. The Hippos ripped apart the Rwandan defence right from the onset and Daniel ‘Mzee’ Sserunkuma was guilty of not scoring Uganda’s opener in the first minute when his close range effort hit the upright. Sserunkuma, however, made up for the miss with a solitary effort and Crizestom Ntambi made it 2-0 for Uganda at the breather.

Rwanda’s Emere Ndayisenge reduced the deficit to 2-1 with a clean strike but Sserunkuma ensured there was no late drama with his second goal of the evening, two minutes from full time. The result ensured that the Hippos surge to the top of group B with a superior goal difference after Zanzibar edged Yemen 2-1 in the earlier game played on Sunday. Coach Frank ‘Video’ Anyau’s boys return to action tomorrow against Yemen and wrap up their group B matches against Zanzibar on Friday. The winner of the championships will walk home with $18,000 (Shs36m).The tournament is fully funded by Eritrean government.
