Video: Festival Eritrea 2010 Opening Ceremony

President Isaias opens Eritrea Festival 2010 at national level

Asmara, 31 July 2010 – President Isaias Afwerki today opened Eritrea Festival 2010 at the national level at the Expo grounds that would continue until August 8.  The President, accompanied by Ministers, PFDJ heads, regional administrators, Army commanders and diplomats, as well as the Sudanese delegation headed by the Administrator of the Sudanese Red Sea region, Dr. Mohammed Tahr, visited various sites at the Expo grounds, during which he was accorded warm welcome by cultural troupes of the 9 ethnic groups. 

In the course of the tour, the President observed the regional pavilions, cultural practices, pavilion of the institutions of higher education,  artistic works, various programs staged by the national construction companies highlighting the on-going economic emancipation endeavors, special innovation shows and other activities. 

A number of programs are being featured in the festival, including regional pavilions in the participation of administrative regions, institutions, companies, ministries, EDF members, national associations and individuals. Moreover, educational activities, documentation, painting, photography, programs depicting the Warsay-Yikaalo Development Campaign, writing contest, traditional and modern song competition, artistic and cultural shows, bazaar and the like are part of the festival. 

Also in connection with Eritrea Festival 2010,  a cultural show was staged last night at Cinema Roma that was transmitted live through ERI-TV in which a number of Eritrean nationals from inside the country and abroad participated. 

Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman of the National Holidays Coordinating Committee, Education Minister Semere Russom, stated that the holding of Eritrea Festival that  began in the days of the armed struggle is still being conducted in a colorful manner. He further pointed out that the event provides a platform to symbolize the existing unity in diversity, the mutual co-existence and harmony at the national level, the nation’s rich history and life style, coordinated endeavors and common vision, among others. In this connection, Mr. Semere expressed appreciation to those who made due contribution in organizing national holidays in a colorful manner. 

New songs, folk dances, dramas and comedies were staged on the occasion highlighting the steadfastness and dedication of the Eritrean people. (Shabait)
