Eritrea Cycling team: Hero’s welcome to Asmara after winning Tour of Libya (video)

Asmara, 17 March 2010 – The Eritrean national cycling team stood first at the International Cycling Tour of Libya that took place from March 13 to 17.  In the 5-edition cycling race covering a total distance of 657 kilometers, Eritrean cyclist Jani Tewolde won prize as the best young rider.

In the race that concluded today, Eritrea stood first at the national level followed by Morocco and Libya. Also in the 145 Km-long 5th edition race today, a British cyclist finished first, Algerian cyclist 2nd and Libyan cyclist 3rd.

The Eritrean cycling team demonstrated impressive performance to maintain the victory it scored over the Moroccan counterpart. Reports indicated that cyclist Jani Tewolde in particular demonstrated excellent performance to maintain the honorable white jersey he has been wearing in the course of the race.

At the closing ceremony, the Eritrean Ambassador to Libya, Mr. Abdalla Mussa, and Libyan officials handed prizes to the national teams that emerged victorious.

The Eritrean national cyclist team won broad acclaim on the part of a number of Libyan newspapers and other parties. Meanwhile, the national team would participate in the 120 Km-long cycling race which scheduled to take place in Tripoli on 19 March in honor of the Libyan Leader, Brother Muammar Al-Khadafi. Zoba Debub mieeting President Esayas is also the best ever for zoba people to see him.Especially for children  and the old.  Every body wanted to have a glimpse of him.
