US Sanctions Resolution Would Reinforce Eritrean Unity, Say Eritreans Residing In Washington D.C.

Asmara, 4 February 2010 – At a meeting they conducted, members of the Eritrean Community in Washington D.C. and its environs said that the US sanctions resolution adopted in the name of the Security Council would reinforce Eritrea unity and the national resistance drive.

The Eritrean citizens reiterated their readiness to make due contribution in the implementation of the integrated national development program. The nationals further asserted that they would take active participation in the forthcoming massive demonstration by Eritreans residing in different corners of the world to denounce the illegal sanctions resolution.

In briefings he gave to the participants of the meeting, the Eritrean Ambassador to the USA, Mr. Girmai Gebremariam, underlined that the Eritrean people paid heavy sacrifice in the struggle for independence so as to become owners of an independent political path and not become servants. He went to express conviction that enemy conspiracies aimed at promoting their hegemonic ambitions and undermining our development drive would be rebuffed through the united resistance of the Eritrean people inside the country and abroad.

Also in the meeting, Dr. Asgede Hagos and Dr. Gidewon Abay Asmerom respectively presented papers highlighting the erroneous policy pursued by the United States in the Horn Africa and the dire
consequences resulting from such a policy. They further elucidated the vision of the Eritrean people and government towards promoting peace and development in the region.

The participants of the meeting expressed determination to live up to the nation’s expectations and adopted a resolution that each citizen within their membership contributes money towards strengthening the nation’s capacity.

In a similar meeting they held, members of the Eritrean Community in Belgium expressed resolve to back up the integrated national development program in the Homeland. In addition, they indicated that they would participate in the demonstration to be staged in Geneva at the European level, as part of the planned worldwide demonstration by Eritrean nationals against the US sanctions resolution.

Speaking at the meeting, the Eritrea Ambassador to the European Union, Belgium and Luxemburg, Mr. Girma Asmerom, gave briefings regarding the objective situation in the Homeland and the integrated national development program for 2010.
