Miss East Africa beauty pageant to be held in Dar Es Salaam this Friday

Dar Es Salaam — HEFTY prizes await the winner of this year's Miss East Africa beauty pageant set for Friday at the Mlimani City Hall in Dar es Salaam.

Chairman of the organizing committee, Rena Calist told reporters today that the winner would drive home a Toyota Celica sports car worth over 30m/- plus a one-year contract with the company valued at 50,000 US dollars (about 60m/-).

Calist said the first runner-up would be awarded 3,000 US dollars (about 4m/-) and a one-year contract with the firm worth 20,000 US dollars (26m/-) in areas of modelling and advertising.

The third winner would pocket 1,000 US dollars (about 13m/-) and a 6,000-US-dollar (about 7m/-) contract whereas the rest would be given token prizes.

He said 14 beauties from Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Mauritius, Rwanda, Burundi and Somalia would showcase their catwalk skills in traditional, beach and evening gown during the finals.

Congolese musician Ferre Batangire Gola is among artistes who would colour the event.

Other performers include Kidumu Kinene from Kenya and Vumilia Mwaipopo with her K-Mondo Sound band who promised a good show.

Entrance fees have been pegged at 100,000/- for special seats and 50,000/-.
