As part of the growing attention given by the International Institute of San Remo in collaborative relationships with universities and research institutes them, were guests yesterday at Villa Ormond four renowned scholars – Professor Gabriella Venturini, Professor of International Law at the University of Milan , Professor Andrea de Guttry, Director of the International Training Center for Conflict Management at Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna di Pisa, Professor Harry Post, famous Dutch professor seconded to the University of Modena and Sassari and Professor Wolff Heintschel von Heinegg , Dean of the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt – have presented an interesting research on the processes of peace in the Horn of Africa.

The meeting discussion was held in the large conference room recently renovated with the assistance of the Foundation CARIGE attended a large public, civil and military authorities (including the Superintendent TV Pastorino and the company commander Lt. Charter of San Remo) friends Sanremo Institute, experts from different countries currently in San Remo for two weeks to attend a postgraduate course in international humanitarian law, students at the University of Nice HUMANMED.

The research, published in one volume, was carried out under the auspices and with the help of the Ministry of Education, University and Research. It reconstructs in its historical and legal causes of the conflict that opposed between 1998 and 2000, Ethiopia and Eritrea, focusing on the initiatives of the international community that have allowed the conclusion in 2000 of a peace treaty and on innovative mechanisms put in place to resolve peacefully, through international arbitration, the territorial dispute between the two countries.

The presentation of the book has given rise to a stimulating debate. As noted by the President of Maurizio Moreno, with this initiative, the Institute has sought to initiate a program of presentations of books of particular interest and meet with Italian and foreign, have distinguished themselves internationally in the promotion of peace and stabilization process. Same vein, only a few days ago the International Institute of Humanitarian Law had been given to the Villa Ormond Cornelio Sommaruga, for many years chairman of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
