Sioux Falls Police arrested Aklilu Fessehage Kidane, 21, and Amanuel Gebrengus Atsemet, 21, after a series of assaults that included both adults and juveniles.

On the evening of Wednesday, August 19th, Sioux Falls Police responded to a call of a disorderly subject in the 2600 block of S. Judy Ave. During the course of their investigation it was determined that multiple assaults, kidnapping and robbery had been committed involving multiple victims.

According to police, a semi-automatic handgun and an AK-47 were used in the assaults.

The two suspects had distributed 15 pounds of marijuana to a man for him to sell. This man was to pay Kidane and Atsemet $18,000 once the marijuana had been sold. In an attempt to help sell the marijuana, it changed hands multiple times.

Kidane and Atsemet were never paid their $18,000, so they began tracking down each person involved in the sale of the marijuana.

These victims had guns put to their heads and the suspects threatened to kill them and their families if they did not receive their money. The two suspects threatened a 21 year old man by putting a gun in his mouth, pistol whipping him, pouring gasoline on him and threatened to set him on fire. The suspects placed this man in the trunk of a car and drove him around to multiple ATM machines to get money to pay for the marijuana.

Kidane and Atsemet eventually released this victim in the area of Madison & Sycamore but kept his vehicle. A few hours later the two suspects were located by law enforcement in the 1600 block of Rock Creek Drive and were arrested.

Kidane and Atsemet are charged with:
2 counts of Aggravated Assault
1 count of Aggravated Kidnapping in the 2nd Degree
1 count of First Degree Robbery

Both suspects were arraigned in court on these charges on Thursday, august 20th. They are currently in the Minnehaha County Jail on a $500,000 cash only bond. A preliminary hearing has been set up for September 4th at 10:30am.

The Sioux Falls Police Dept. believes there are more victims involved in this incident and they are encouraged, and anyone with information is encouraged, to contact the Sioux Falls Police Dept. at (605) 367-7000.
