Sawa, 27 June 2009 – The participants of the 22nd round National Service graduated today in the presence of President Isaias Afwerki, Ministers, Regional Administrators, Army commanders, parents and invited guests.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, President Isaias pointed out that the different rounds of National Service attest to the fact that the program is registering qualitative change both in terms of the training and education provided to the participants. He further noted that such developments amply demonstrate that the nation is registering progress in various domains.

The President went on to say that the majority of participants of the 22nd round were born after independence and expressed conviction that the graduates would live up to the nations expectations.

Also speaking on the occasion, the Commander of the Sawa National Education and Training Center, Col. Ezra Woldegebriel, said that the Government’s endeavors to ensure the safeguarding of the nation’s sovereignty and socio-economic progress have borne fruitful outcome. In this regard, he noted the vital contribution which the Sawa National Education and Training Center has made.

Similarly, the Commander of the National Service Training Center, Lt. Colonel Temesgen Samuel, explained that the participants of the 22nd round have followed the training offered to them with enthusiasm and that 40% of this year’s graduates comprised females.

The graduates staged parade and other performances on the occasion and subsequently took oaths that they would serve the nation and people with devotion. Those who demonstrated excellence in different activities both as individuals and unit members received awards from the President and other government officials.

The participants of the 22nd round National Service come from 62 schools across the nation.
