Maulid celebrated nationwide

Asmara, 9 March 2009 – Eid Maulid Anebi Asherif was today celebrated nationwide in a colorful manner.
Speaking at a gathering within the premises of Jimie Al-Kulafa Al-Rashideen Mosque here in the capital in which ministers, senior government officials, religious leaders, diplomats and thousands of the faithful took part, the Eritrean Mufti, Sheik Al-Amin Osman, congratulated the Eritrean people at home and abroad. He also expressed goodwill to members of the Defense Force engaged in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and enhancing reconstruction programs.
Sheik Al-Amin called on the Eritrean people to safeguard the hard-won independence through reinforcing the existing unity and harmony among one another. He further wished peace and prosperity to fellow citizens.
The secretary general of the Awkaf congress in Asmara, Mr. Mohammed Berhan Ahmed, on his part expressed happy Maulid to all followers of the Islamic Faith and wished a year of peace and prosperity.
Students presented various spiritual songs, poems and dramas on the occasion, thus adding color to the celebrations.
